Two Mega Quakes Hit Near Honshu Japan

A major earthquake occurred at 10:07:09 (UTC) on Sunday,
September 5, 2004.  The magnitude 7.0 event has been located near the south coast of western Honshu, Japan. The hypo-central depth was poorly constrained. (This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.).



In addition, the USGS is showing a second “separate” and larger earthquake measuring 7.1 magnitude in a different location. As it is presented, this “is not” an aftershock. It appears to be a stand alone separate quake.

“Swarm” of 17 Earthquakes Hits Oklahoma

Beginning at 12:02 AM (Central Time), a 1.8 mag. quake initiated the start of a ‘swarm’ of quakes which at this time has now hit seventeen (17). The largest quakes were (2) 2.6 mag. The first hitting at 1:40 AM (Central), and a second 2.6 mag. occurred at 8:56 PM (Central).



What initially brought my attention to this not yet known “swarm” of quakes, was the depth of the quake measuring only 5 kilometers deep by the USGS. This seemed to be an unusually shallow quake. So of course my thoughts went directly to what occurred in February of this year around Yellowstone Super-Volcano. It was at that time, I first heard the USGS description of a string of shallow quakes as being caused by “mine-blast” or “mine-collapse”. We soon found out that was impossible. In order to reach the measurement of a high magnitude reading, it would have been a “nuclear bomb”. Although very unlikely, there are many who are not ruling out such a large blast for “tunneling” or weapons testing.



Regarding today’s Oklahoma occurrence, I did want to know if there might have been “tunneling” or of course, a mine-blast which may have occurred.



I was soon on the phone to Jim Lawson, who is the director of the Oklahoma Geological Survey Observatory in Leonard, OK. He reassured me that it “was definitely not a mine blast, or of any tunneling that I’m aware of”. I can see by the seismic reading when measuring the distinct waves, that it was (is) indeed a swarm of earthquakes”
