YaBB – Still FREE, still designed how you want it, and still one of the best website communication tools after over 10 years.
It's been a long time since we sent an email update to YaBB community members, which is something we rarely do.  It's time to update you on what's new with the Yet another Bulletin Board project since so much has changed.

Sponsorship
-----------------------
If you haven't noticed XIMinc has dissolved.  Xnull Internet Media, Inc. was the company that sponsored YaBB for most of its existence and provided web design, domain registration, and web hosting.  With this change, YaBB is now on its own again.  At least for the time being, this has meant moving YaBB's website to SourceForge.net for hosting.  SourceForge is where the project development code repository and downloads have been hosted.  Visit the project site at https://sourceforge.net/projects/yabb/.

Website
-----------------------
We have launched a completely new website.  If you have not visited http://www.yabbforum.com in a while, you'll hopefully be pleasantly surprised by the new look, new pages, and better organization.  In this new design, we have taken a more graphical approach versus text like YaBB had in many of its past site designs.

Latest Release
-----------------------
On July 5, 2010, YaBB released version 2.5 Anniversary Edition.  This edition celebrates YaBB's 10th anniversary and includes a special template.  It also features a long list of bug and layout fixes.  As always, there are new features too, such as gender selection on the registration page, an option to require posting before signatures are allowed, IPs in the registration log, language syntax highlighting in code boxes, and much more Ajax usage.  You can download this release at http://www.yabbforum.com/downloads.php.

Development
-----------------------
The YaBB team has decided to continue with its original code base for the next major release, YaBB 3.  Several “rewrites” have been created by the team using object-oriented Perl, but the end result was too much work required to get YaBB back to its original glory.  By continuing in this manner, we should be able to minimize or even eliminate feature loss and reduce new bugs and security holes.  Some of the features we’re working on for this major leap in development are to cater to what YaBBers around the world have wanted for years:  MySQL database support, Open ID login options, sub boards, event calendar, redirect URL boards, lo-fi/mobile view, and exporting posts/PMs.  With these large changes, YaBB will be able to compete much better in today’s market and hopefully become a leading system once again.  You can preview some of the progress on the community forum at http://www.yabbforum.com/community/ which is running beta code.

YaBB on FaceBook
-----------------------
YaBB is on FaceBook!  Yes, we have moved into the social media/networking frenzy, which only makes sense since that is what YaBB was built upon 10 years ago.  Visit YaBB’s FaceBook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/YaBB/175303075097.  On the footer of YaBB’s website, you can recommend yabbforum.com and you can “Like” the YaBB FaceBook page.  On the page, you can keep up with YaBB and BoardMod news and see the latest discussions on the actual forum communities.  You can also collaborate with fellow YaBBers from around the world!

Contribute
-----------------------
If you want to contribute to the project, you can donate money at http://sourceforge.net/donate/index.php?group_id=9008.  You can also request to join the development team to share time and talent with support, design, or coding at http://www.yabbforum.com/joindev.php.  BoardMod can always use code modifications to make YaBB better – visit http://www.boardmod.org/.  If you would like to show your YaBB pride with links and artwork, http://www.yabbforum.com/artwork.php has many images to choose from.  And something anyone can easily help out with very quickly is by rating YaBB on software directory websites  - a list of them is available at http://www.yabbforum.com/rate.php.

Thanks for using YaBB. We hope that you’ll continue to see YaBB as a viable option for your websites’ communication and social networking needs.

The YaBB Team,
http://www.yabbforum.com
