Title: Šamanske modrosti
Post by Kali on 09.05.2003 at 02:21:12

"There is a road in the hearts of all of us, hidden and seldom traveled, which leads to an unkown, secret place. The old people came literally to love the soil, and they sat or reclined on the ground with a feeling of being close to a mothering power. Their teepees were built upon the earth and their altar's were made of earth. The soul was soothing, strengthening, cleansing and healing. That is why the old Indian still sits upon the earth instead of propping himself up and away from its life giving forces. For him, to sit or lie upon the ground is to be able to think more deeply and to feel more keenly. He can see more clearly into the mysteries of life and come closer in kinship to other lives about him."

"Chief Luther Standing Bear"

[glb]Teach your children
what we have taught our children -
that the earth is our mother.

Whatever befalls the earth
befalls the sons and daughters of the earth.

If men spit upon the ground,
they spit upon themselves.

This we know.
The earth does not belong to us;
we belong to the earth.

This we know.
All things are connected
like the blood which unites one family.
All things are connected.

Whatever befalls the earth
befalls the sons and daughters of the earth.

We did not weave the web of life;
we are merly a strand in it.

Whatever we do to the web,
we do to ourselves.

(don Juan)

by THE ELDERS - HOPI NATION

You have been telling people that this is the Eleventh Hour,

Now you must go back and tell them that this is the Hour.

And there are things to be considered:

Where are you living?

What are you doing?

What are your relationships?

Are you in right relation?

Where is your water?

Know your garden.

It is time to speak your Truth.

Create your community.

Be good to each other.

And do not look outside yourself for the leader.

This could be a good time!

There is a river flowing now very fast.

It is so great and so swift that there are those who will be afraid.

They will try to hold onto the shore.

They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination.

The Elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open and our heads above water.

See who is in there with you and celebrate.

Kakšni so vaši odnosi?
Ali ste v pravem odnosu?
Kje je vaša voda?
Spoznajte svoj vrt.
Čas je, da poveste svojo resnico.
Ustvarite svojo skupnost
Bodite dobri drug do drugega.
Čutili bodo, kako jih odnaša in ti bodo zelo trpeli.
Vedite, da ima reka svoj cilj.

Starešine pravijo, da moramo zapustiti obrežje, se odriniti v sredino reke, ohraniti naše oči odprte in naše glave držati nad vodo. Poglejte, kdo je notri z vami in proslavljate.

"Being Indian is an attitude, a state of mind, a way of being in harmony with all things and all beings. It is allowing the heart to be the distributor of energy on this planet: to allow feelings and sensitivities to determine where energy goes; bringing aliveness up from the Earth and down from the Sky, putting it in and giving it out from the heart."

Seventh Meditation of the Twelfth Moon

The Creator reminds us that blessings are counted
in the way that we choose to look at them.

Anything that has brought a smile to your lips,
joy to your heart or a lightness to your step is a Blessing.

Anything that has made your life more comfortable,
has lightened your burden or has brought warmth
to your home is a Blessing.

Anything that has supported your body, has increased
your endurance or has opened your heart is a Blessing.

Anything that has made you look deeper, has expanded
your understanding or has increased your compassion is a Blessing.

Anything that has tested your strength, has fortified your commitment or has forced you to grow is a Blessing.

Anything that has reminded you of how precious life is and has taught you to treasure your Relations is a Blessing.

THE CHEROKEE LEGEND OF THE CREATION

Many, many moons ago, in the beginning of time, the earth was all water. There was no land. All the four-leggeds, all the animals, all the winged-ones, lived up in the sky on the clouds. They were waiting for the land to dry, but it would not dry. They would send one animal but he would come back unable to find dry land. The animals would regularly check the water below. Finally, after a dog had looked and reported back that it was still wet, they sent the water beetle. The water beetle dove into the water, grabbed a handful of mud at the bottom, brought it up and placed it on top of the water; and it started to dry, started to build land. He brought more and more; and still they waited for it to dry, still they waited and waited.

Finally, they sent grandfather buzzard, the mighty buzzard, down and the land was almost dry. As the buzzard flew, he'd fly down close to the land; and every time he would flap his mighty wings, he would form a mountain and a valley. That's why the Cherokee land has mountains and valleys in it today. All the animals came down and settled on the earth.

After they did, they realized they had no light. So they called to Grandfather and asked would he give them light, and he did. He brought to them the sun. He put the sun down right by the ground, and it was too hot for the animals. So they pushed and pushed, till finally they got it far enough out that it would not burn all the time; but it was still so hot that the crawfish was baked. That's why, if you look at him today, he is red from the sun being too close.

Finally, they got the sun far enough out so it would not burn and we would have night. And Grandfather told them, "Now that I have done this for you, I ask that all the four-legged, and all the animals, and all the plants stay awake for seven days and for seven nights." This is why today, when a warrior goes to cross his manhood, he fasts and sweats for seven days.

All the animals and all the plants fell asleep except for some. The owl stayed awake, and that's why he has vision to hunt at night now. The plants, the Douglas fir, the cedar, the pine, and a few others stayed awake for seven nights and for seven days. That's why only these, among all the plants, are allowed to stay green all the year round. The other plants fell asleep and so must sleep part of every year.

Native American 10 Commandments

The Earth is our Mother, care for her.
Honor all your relations.
Open your heart and soul to the Great Spirit.
All life is sacred; treat all beings with respect.
Take from the Earth what is needed and nothing more.
Do what needs to be done for the good of all.
Give constant thanks to the Great Spirit for each new day.
Speak the truth; but only of good in others.
Follow the rhythms of nature; rise and retire with the sun.
Enjoy life's journey, but leave no tracks.

10 indijanskih zapovedi

[glb]

Zemlja je naša Mati, skrbimo zanjo.

Spoštuj vse svoje sorodstvo.

Svoje srce in dušo odpri Velikemu Duhu.

Govori resnico; vendar samo o dobrem v drugih.

Sledi ritmom narave; vstani in počivaj s Soncem.

Vsi delamo napake, nihče od nas ni popoln. Pustimo sodbe popolnim, zakaj ti niso s tega sveta.

If you have nothing good to say about anyone then you might be living in the wrong time. For it takes one of good heart to remember the good and a fool to dwell in the past. We all make mistakes, not one of us is pure. Leave judgement to the pure for they are not of this world.

Vse živali in rastline so zaspale, razen nekaterih. Rastline, jelka, cedra, bor in nekaj drugih so ostale budne sedem noči in sedem dni.

Cinnamon Moon

Živalski duhovi delujejo z nami na mnogih področjih in različnih nivojih. Totemi odsevajo vidike naših osebnosti in nas učijo boljšega poznavanja sebe in poznavanja naših medsebojnih odnosov.

V primeru sodelovanja z večjim številom bitij-učiteljev, bodo vedno nekateri, ki bodo težili k prevladovanju ob različnih priložnostih in najopaznejši so ponavadi glavni učitelji.

Preučite njene navade, njeno naravo, njene metode preživetja in uporabite ta spoznanja v vašem življenju. Mi z duhovne domene vas spodbujamo, da raziskujete vse vidike duhovnosti in razvijete svojo pot. To je samo ena od možnosti.

The First Shamans

Long ago, when Ulgen Tenger created mankind people were very happy and
lived without any trouble or disease. His brother, Erleg Khan, chief of
the spirits of the eastern direction, was unhappy with this situation,
and sent disease and unhappiness to human beings. Suddenly people
started becoming ill and dying, and Ulgen and the spirits of the western
direction were troubled and met together in the Pleiades to discuss how
to correct this problem. They decided to send Eagle to be a shaman to
mankind.

When Eagle came down to earth from the upper world, he tried to
communicate with humans and tell them that he had come to be a shaman for
them. But because he had originally been created by the spirits of the
eastern direction he did not know the human language, and, discouraged,
he returned to the upper world and told the western sky spirits he could
not help humankind. They told him to return, but this time to find a
woman, mate with her, and the child would be the first shaman. So Eagle,
flying back to earth, saw a beautiful woman sleeping under a tree, mated
with her, and then her son became the first shaman. Even today shamans
remember the flight of the eagle in their dances and fly up to heaven
when they shamanize.

In those days, shamans were very powerful, and could travel about the
earth with the speed of lightning, and perform the most amazing tasks.
One of the most famous shamans was Hara-Gyrgen, and Ulgen Tenger, seeing
the arrogance of this shaman, decided to test him. Tenger took away the
soul of the daughter from Hara-Gyrgen's clan, and the girl became like
dead. When the shaman arrived he saw at once that the girl's soul was
lost, and he shamanized and flew up to the upper world. He came to the
dwelling place of Tenger and saw that the girl's soul was in a bottle and
Tenger was holding it closed with his thumb. Hara-Gyrgen turned himself
into a bee, stung Tenger on the cheek, and when Tenger dropped the bottle
to slap the bee, the shaman grabbed the girl's soul and flew back to the
earth. Ulgen Tenger was angry and punished the shaman for being too
powerful. He made Hara-Gyrgen jump up and down on a mountain forever,
and when the mountain has worn down shamans will no longer have their
powers. After hundreds of years of jumping on the mountain, Hara-Gyrgen
is becoming tired, so now shamans are not as strong as they used to be,
and people no longer understand many of the shaman songs.

What Mask Are You Wearing? ~

You can change your face by leaving yourself open or by putting on a mask. Mask-making is an ancient shaman art. There are many kinds of masks. There are masks of people warriors, dead shamans, masks that embody the spirit of animals and hunting objects; there are guardian spirit masks; and there are masks that stand up with the spirit of the sun or moon or the heart of a great hunter like the wolf. These masks can be magical and can bring powers in any endeavor, be it hunting, dancing for rain, fertile crops, or gifts within the mysteries of healing and dreaming

As I look into the eyes of brother wolf, I see honor, strength, dignity. So I wonder how can man destroy these wonderful creations of the creator. Look into the eyes of a wolf and you shall see your soul laid bare, and know that there are greater things in this world other than material wealth. Look deep into the wolf eyes and you shall see the greatest creature to have ever walk this earth. Look into your own eyes and see the greatest destroyer that walks this earth. I am starting to learn that man does not have to be as he is, we can to have wolf eyes.-Author Unknown

Power of the Wind

~ The source of power floats on the wind. The source of power is like the wind itself. It can move mountains and change the surface of the oceans, but it is unseen. You cannot prove it, but you can feel it. It is like magic. Believe in the Great Spirit. Believe in the Tao in the same way. Believe in the integrity of your own soul. Believe in the movement of the winds from the north and the south. Those winds can change the surface of the earth, just as spirit can change the surface of your mind

Animal Guide Meditation

Meeting Your Animal Guides
There are many ways to finding out what your animal guide or guides are. But when you make the journey, it is best to meet one at a time in order to make the most of the visit. My favorite way and most recommend is through a special meditation journey. That is, a meditation with a specific purpose and intent. As usual, grab your journal so you can write down your experience as soon as you've finished. You don't want to forget anything.
When you have completed your journey, start your research about your particular animal. You might want to pull in their essence during your daily events, so pick a calendar, a picture, a statue or whatever you like.
The most important part to this meditation is to keep an open mind. Don't go into this with preconceived ideas or perceptions!
Animal Guide Meditation
Since this is a special meditation, you may want to prepare your meditation space in a special way. Add a few ritualistic events, such as lighting a white candle and saying a prayer stating your intent for this meditative session. You may want to decorate your space with several animal statues or books about a variety of animals. Once you meet your animal guide, you can remove these generic items and replace them with specific ones of your personal animal spirit(s).
Once you are all set and prepared, this is what you do. Take your time, try to imagine as much detail as possible. And it can't be stressed enough how important it is not to go into this meditation with pre-conceived ideas about what you would LIKE your guide to be. Keep an open mind and an open heart.

      1. Sit in a comfortable position, one that you can sustain for about 30-45 minutes.
      2. Close your eyes and take in a deep cleansing breath. Fill your lungs to their fullest capacity. Then release the breath through your mouth and push all the air out of your body. Take in 3 deep breaths through the nose, imagine the white light from the universe coming into your lungs and collecting at your solar plexus.
      3. With all 3 exhales, image all the stress, anxiety and negativity you have leaving your body carried out to the universe on a gay smoke where it can be dissipated and no longer do harm to anyone. As you exhale, imagine the events of the day or week floating out of your body. Put these worries aside and begin to relax your entire body and mind. Feel the tension in your muscles begin to subside. Begin at your solar plexus and imagine the white light moving up and down your body from this point. Imagine the warmth of the energy as it passes through your muscles and organs. Feel the tingling sensations as the light moves down to your toes and up your body to the top of your head. Imagine your entire body engulfed by this white divine light, from the inside out.
      4. Say a prayer once more asking your guides and teachers to come to you and to help with the purpose of this mediation. State your intention clearly and ask 'God' to help you with your meditative journey. Don't forget to thank them up front for their efforts.
      5. This step takes a little practice, don't worry if you can't do this for any extended period of time, but at least give it a try. Keep your eyes closed, but look up at the pineal gland. This is a small gland located in the middle of your forehead, just above the brow. (this is also considered to be the position of your third eye and is therefore the gateway to higher conscious realms). Try to keep your eyes focused on this point. The muscles around your eyes may become sore as you stretch them upward, so don't over do this at first. As you practice, this step will become easier and easier to do.
      6. As you focus on your third eye imagine your at the base of a tunnel, dimly light and slanted upward. Imagine your astral body (or your soul) standing up from your physical body and begin to walk toward and into the tunnel. See the lights on the walls and the texture of the floor as you walk through the tunnel. Imagine yourself moving upward.
      7. Just ahead you see the opening to the tunnel and as you reach the top, you realize you are standing on a ledge high above your town. You feel propelled to raise your arms and step off the cliff. At the very second you leave the cliff, your astral body morphs into a beautiful bird and you begin to fly westward toward the Pacific.
      8. Imagine the landscape passing below you, the mountains, rivers, forests and deserts. Imagine your soul flying over the coastline of California and out over the ocean. Now turn your wings a little to the north, flying toward the center of the northern pacific.
      9. As you travel over the water you see in the distance an island. It's not a terribly big island, but it's large enough to hold a tall dormant volcano which now has a great water fall spilling into a clear pool at it's base. Now dip your wings slightly and make your way to the edge of that pool. As you step onto the island under a large shade tree, you instantly morph back into your human soul form. Look around and see the soft carpet of moss under your feet, listen to the crashing soothing sounds of the waterfall, take in a deep breath and smell the fresh flower sweetened air. This is the Island of the Animal Kingdom. Every animal that has ever existed lives on this island or in the pool of water before you.
     10. Now imagine yourself sitting under this tree on the moss, next to the pool of water. Get very comfortable and prepare yourself for another internal meditation on this island. Imagine yourself going into a meditation state. Call your animal guide and ask them to come and make themselves known to you. Imagine yourself getting as relaxed as possible. As soon as your ready, imagine yourself opening your eyes. The first image you see before you is your animal spirit. Either on the land or in the water, the animal makes itself known to you.
     11. The remainder of this meditation is up to the individual. You can ask their name, ask them what lessons you have to learn from them. Ask them what strengths and/or weaknesses they bring to you. Ask them how they can help you combat these weaknesses. And ask them how you can call on their strengths to help you during stressful situations or when ever you need a little extra energy.
     12. When you have concluded your visit, make sure you thank them deeply for their gift of service and protection to you. Thank them for coming here during this meditation to meet you and/or visit with you. Give them a goodbye hug. Then imagine yourself lifting your arms and morphing back into the bird spirit. Fly back over the ocean to California, over the deserts and forests and rivers. Back to the edge of the tunnel. As soon as you step down on the tunnel you morph back into your human self again.
     13. Imagine yourself walking back into the tunnel and heading back down to your meditative space. Imagine your soul walking through the door to your room, and seeing your physical body right where you left it. As your soul steps back inside your spiritual body, all the visions sensations and answers you received merge with your physical brain and are automatically stored into your conscious mind.
     14. Take in a deep breath, begin to feel your body, become more and more aware of your surroundings, have a nice long and hard stretch, then open your eyes.

Remember: The last thing you should do before you get up from your meditative spot is to record this event either on tape or in a journal. It's important to do it right away while the images, feelings and sounds are still clear in your mind.
Next, find information about your animal guide. Read about it's habits, talents and personality. How much does this animal reflect your own personality? You should also begin to surround yourself with images of you animal guide. This helps the conscious mind connect with the animal spirit during the day and can give you added strength and support during your activities.
The more you meet with your animal guide, the more you begin to feel their presence around you during your conscious states. You will feel them at your side, perhaps lying down next to you, protecting you, and giving you comfort when you may feel all alone. They are truly our best friends and will never leave us.

Animal Guides

  Animal Guides

There are just as many explanations as there are civilizations who believe animals are part of our spiritual teachers and guides. From the Far East, to Native Americans, a sacred Cow from Hinduism and the Dove of Peace that plays a key role as a guide in Christian literature. All societies believe animals have played and do play a special role in our spiritual lives.

The connections we have with the animal kingdom isn't just restricted to Paganism, Shamanism, the NewAge or metaphysical beliefs and understandings. So take some time to look at a church, a chapel, synagogue or gathering place belonging to a religious sect that you're not real familiar with. Talk to others about their beliefs and ask them what animals come to mind when they describe the relationships between that kingdom and the kingdom of their God. It's really a great way to learn, bridge gaps and even share knowledge.

As for me and my beliefs and understandings come from a Cherokee heritage. It is widely believed that animals here in the physical form, as well as the spiritual form, are all guides and teachers and when one crosses our path, we are to learn something from them. When you see an animal in the woods or a bird in the sky, think to yourself, what is this raccoon trying to tell me? What does the eagle want me to see? You can try to connect with creature and see if communication is possible. But even if it isn't, you can decipher the meaning.

Animals of the Physical Kingdom

The easiest way to gain understanding about an animal who crosses your path in the physical form is to define the characteristics that you associate with that animal. Start an encyclopedia of symbolic representations. Much like the Dream encyclopedias you see on the market, make one for yourself. Those "dream" books are really just someone else's interpretation of symbolic items, so why not use the interpretation that really matters...YOURS. Once you start filling up your encyclopedia, you will be able to use it for both these animal encounters and dream interpretations. After all, your interpretations will be valid for both events and much more meaningful for YOU then someone else's ideas or perceptions.

Animal Messages

To find the meaning or message behind the animal that cross your path, you need to examine 4 basic parts of the encounter. This is best explained through scenario, so here goes:

Let's say you see a hawk circling your house one morning on your way to work. Stop for a few moments and watch it. Try to distinguish the colors and if you can, determine what kind of hawk it is, today you see a North American Red Shoulder Hawk.

Now consider the 4 basic parts of the encounter. (You might think about keeping a journal and describing what happened. If you don't have time now to decipher the meaning of the visitation, you'll have enough information to do it later.)

            * What are the characteristics of the animal.
           * What does this animal represent to you.
           * What do the colors of the animal mean to you.
For example, the hawk had red shoulders, what do you think of when you see red and what does red on the shoulders mean for you.
           * Describe what the animal was doing. What was your gut feeling at that moment.
For instance, was the hawk just soaring and enjoying it's view from above, or was it searching for something. A place to land? Something to eat? Give your description in as much "feeling" and intuitive detail as possible.

Next, you might find or read about the scientific and physiological characteristics of the animal to help you determine what could have been doing. You can certainly go to the library and look it up in an encyclopedia. But if you can get your hands on Ted Andrew's Animal Speak book, you'll have some wonderful explanations of what this bird might represent to you. You might even look for a Peterson's Field Guide book (ie: Peterson's Field Guide to Birds). These are wonderful books to have around the house, they can help you identify just about any animals you might encounter.

Once you've got all this together and recorded in your journal. Step back and contemplate a little on what you wrote. How does your interpretation of this event fit into your life. What aspect does the visitation shed information or light upon.

Here's another example that puts all this together:

You and I are walking through the woods, I'm on your left, you on my right. The dirt path is wide, shaded slightly from the warm sun and we can see far off to the next bend. A large green snake crosses the path in front of us. Moving from left to right, going from south to the north. It makes no move toward us. It simply moves patiently and methodically across the path, about 15 feet in front of us.

Now, how would I interpret the snakes message depends on a few of my perceptions.

       * For me, green is a healing color and snakes represent medicine, as in the medical insignia.
       * I believe that when we receive information or energy from the Divine, it enters our body from the left intuitive side. We deliver it from the right action side.
       * The south represents the physical world, probably because I know the lower chakras of the body are the physical chakras that we re-create in each new embodiment. The upper chakras are the ones we take from lifetime to lifetime and are part of the soul/spirit. So I have always associated the north with spirit.

Based on these perceptions, seeing a green snake, cross from my left, to my right, going from south to north and without any aggressive move toward us, would be telling me a healing will be needed along this path. I will probably be the one giving the healing energy as it passes through me from left to right. The snake moving toward the north indicates the healing will be one of spirit, or a information will be given that will bring about a spiritual healing for someone along this path.

Now that might be my interpretation. But how can perception change the meaning of the same event?

You see a snake cross the path in front of us. You notice the snake slithers away into the undergrowth and you stop in your tracks. Not sure if you want to continue past it's location, you stare at the hiding place, move away from the underbrush and quickly rush past the crossing point.

Title: Re: Šamanske modre misli

Your perceptions will have an affect on the message that you saw:

       * You had a bad experience as a child with a snake and you've been frightened of them ever since. When you see a snake, you see danger.
       * Universally green is a healing color and you accept this belief as part of your truth.

When you see a snake, you see danger and a sense of fear crosses your being. Although you are frightened, you see "healing" in part of the message. But for you, it's that someone will become injured and need to be healed in some fashion. The snake slithers away into the undergrowth and you stop in your tracks. Something hidden is involved in this process. Perhaps something that is hidden needs to be healed in order for a progression to take place and the person begins moving forward once again.

Do you see how the same event can be interpreted so differently by two people, based on their life experiences and perceptions. Yet even in the different view, the message is still present. But the message means something different to each person involved.

Animals of the Spiritual Kingdom

If animals in the physical world are here to bring us messages, then what are the spiritual animals doing? Well, actually the same thing, just in a different manner and that's typically not their only purpose. Animal guides teach us a little more intimate detail about our personality, character traits and even our spirit and spiritual gifts. They help guide us along our spiritual path, and can even protect us on the spiritual as well as the physical.

The best way to learn what your animal guide means for you is to follow the same "interpretation" of the animal as we just did in the physical realm. Write down what the animal means to you, what characteristics do you associate with and identify with. What color the animal is and what that meaning has for you. What kind of energy vibration can you associate with your relationship to this animal as your guide and so on. The more you can describe the more insight you might have into your own inner self.

Now it is possible for people to have more than one animal guide. The most common is 2-4 different kinds. During different aspects of your life, one animal may be highlighted more than the other, because you are working on aspects of yourself that require their particular energy to help you progress. Or one kind might duplicate itself to add meaning to your existence, as if when you marry, the animal also gains a mate. Actually it is more common for the animal to find a mate first, and the "love" energy between them effects your energy to attract a mate for yourself.

The type of animal can vary so widely you might be amazed. We often think of an animal guide as a cat, wolf, bird or salamander. Creatures we are familiar with, because they bring the most significant symbolism to our lives. But what if your a paleontologist? And the most significant animal for you is a pterodactyl. Why can't an extent species be an animal guide. Well, it can! So when you go out into the ethers to meet your animal guide, don't go with any preconceived ideas of what you'd like it to be. You're doing yourself a disservice and maybe even be insulting the animal who's with you. Just keep an open mind and be honest with yourself.

The best way for me to explain the significance of an animal guide is to tell you of my personal relationship with my guides. I have had 2 during my entire life and recently a 3rd has made itself known to me. The two main wonderful creatures are a white wolf, and a red shoulder hawk.
So what do these two animals tell about me. Cherokee tradition gives meaning to each animal, and then further defines their relationship through their color. The wolf is considered to be the highest spiritual teacher in the kingdom, even above the hawk and eagle. Each color of the wolf brings a different lesson or knowledge. In my traditions, the white wolf is a phantom beast, it lives between realities, two worlds, two planes at the same time. It comes to teach the lessons of balance, of bridging the physical world with the spiritual world, and how we can cross the planes of existence to learn and share knowledge with our higher self and with the unseen teachers and guides.

My friends that know me in the physical world have told me they can see how my teachings accomplish the goals and purpose of the white wolf. But more so, when they speak with me face to face, they can see a shift in physical energy in my face and eyes that gives them the impression that I'm existing in some other realm. It's a description I usually heard after a reading, but in the past 5 years, it happens more and more in normal everyday conversations. So I guess I do live in 2 places at once...being a Gemini, I would find a way of pulling in dual natures and worlds.

The wolf in a non-spiritual essence also tells me a little about me. A female wolf is a creature of community. She's rarely alone. She shares responsibilities of family with her pack. She is loyal to a fault, some she-wolves have died trying to save one of their own pack members from danger. So being loyal to a fault isn't necessarily good, but it ain't that bad either. I prefer looking at it as being loyal with acceptance. A wolf is territorial and not afraid of fighting for her home or pack. Like many dogs she is a little jealous of those she doesn't know or trust and will often try to put herself between her home/family and others. It's an act of protection, not possession. And in typical wolf fashion, she is also on guard to sense the slightest changes in energy for good or bad. When not threatened and when treated with respect, a wolf will allow others to get close to her and to her pack. But when approached with deceit, or hidden agendas, she will often pick up on that scent and be wary of the contact. Often this "feeling" will appear much earlier than others. She has good ears for listening to the most intricate details, up close and far off. So that early warning system kicks in, even when the energy is at a far distance and has not yet arrived. So when you cross the path of a wolf, they often know you've been coming for a while.

Using Animal Energy

What do you do once you know about your animal. Well, you can define your strengths and use them to overcome or help to support your inner self during those weak moments. How? By using the strengths of your other animal guide(s). It's important to learn both or all your animal guides. So when you need the strength of one, you know what energy or animal essence to call upon.

Wondering soul...wondering man
Heartbeat upon his brow
Mystical persona
Knowledgeable of the land
Knowing of his self

With feet firmly earth grounded
Crown open to the stars
The shaman beats his drum

For I am this...but I am more:
A healer

A counsellor
A magical and mystical force to be reckoned with
A spiritual warrior and god-force soldier

Watch me dance
Hear my drums
Feel my spirit

I revel in the oneness of nature
Seeking solace in our mother earth and father spirit
Creator of synergy...micro in the macro
Harmony in effortless stance

Energy reaper
Mind in matter
Force in motion

Healer of the nation
Listen!  Oh listen you people!
My word is social law!
Law of the land
Law of the universe
Hearken
For I speak!

And what a joy
To be in the presence of the Shaman

Mightier than a lion
Sharp as a sword
Brilliant as a diamond bedazzles
For I am this...I am a Shaman

My time is here
My time in now
Listen!

How the water got to the plains
told by Olga Miller

Way, way back in the first time, when everything was new, there was a group of Aboriginal people living on a mountain. It was a lovely place, but everyone was worried. It had not rained for a long, long time and they were very short of water.

They had some wells but these, except for one, were empty. When it had rained before, the water had just run down the side of the mountain, into the sea, which was far, far away. Now, on the other side of the mountain, there were just some big, dry plains where nothing grew.

Weeri and Walawidbit were two greedy men. They decided to steal the last of the water for themselves and then run away.

In secret, they made a large water-carrier, which was called an eel-a-mun. When everyone was asleep, they stole the water from the last well and hurried off.

When the people woke up, there was no water for them. This was very bad, because there were little children and babies needing water and also the old people. And also, it was very hot.

The Elders called all the people together and it was then that they saw that two men were missing.

Looking around, they found the tracks of the two men. Quickly, the warriors followed these tracks, which led down the other side of the mountain to the big plains and they could see the men in the distance.

The water-carrier was very heavy and Weeri and Walawidbit were walking slowly. This was because they thought they were safe. However, when they saw the warriors coming they ran, too.

The best spearmen in the group ran to a cliff which jutted out and threw all the spears they had. One hit the eel-a-mun and dropped off. However, it did make a hole in the water-carrier. On and on across the plains ran the two men. They did not notice that the water was leaking out until the carrier was almost empty. This was why they had been able to run faster and by this time, the warriors had caught up.

Now, this was way back in the first time, when very strange things happened. So the warriors took the men back home and the Elders called a big meeting. It was decided that the two men had to be punished for stealing and also, for thinking of themselves first and not the community.

So the Wonmutta, the clever man, made some very strong magic and Weeree was changed into the very first emu. He went running down the mountain, out onto the plains, in shame. Walawidbit was changed into the very first blue-tongued lizard and he crawled away to hide in the rocks.

But, a wonderful thing had happened. Wherever the water had leaked onto the plains, there were now beautiful billabongs, or waterholes. There was grass and flowers and lovely water lilies and then there were shrubs and trees. And soon, the birds came and everyone was happy because there was enough water for everyone.

And that is how the water got to the plains.

There is a River - Statement by the Hopi Elders

There is a river flowing very fast. It is so swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel that they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know that the river has a destination. The Elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river.

Keep our eyes open and our heads above the waters. And I say, see who is in there with you and Celebrate! At this time in history we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves. For the moment we do, our spiritual growth comes to a halt. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather your self’s together. Banish the word Struggle from your attitude and vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in Celebration!

This profound statement and advice based upon ancient prophecy is obviously valid for these times but how does one do this push off into the swift river?

"What you put your attention on is what you become conscious of."

This is the one rule that you cannot break. It is inescapable. So let's use this principle to our advantage.

The Mayan calendar has now been scientifically proven to be the flow rate of all of Creation for the last 16.4 billion years. By placing your attention on the individual daily energies described by the Mayan calendar you’re "Tun-ing" your consciousness to the flow of all of Creation. (The River)

This is what the Mayan civilization had going for it. They lived their lives in "Holy Time" intuitively flowing with creation.

Yes, they knew that their civilization would come to an end. Just as the flower wilts and dies to become the fruit and seeds, the Maya knew and prophesized their own demise. If nothing dies, nothing new grows, and this they did know. We feel this as well. Deeply we understand that our current systems and standards must die for a new way of life and experience to flourish.

It is your choice of course, flow or be drowned. You already know this is true.

The Mayan Calendar and Conversion Codex is the simplest method to find and re-find the current Mayan calendar date from the Gregorian calendar and contains the true traditional meanings of the energies from the Kiche Mayan priests. It can be used to instantly find a personal birth energy and true purpose of your life this time around. Also, it presents a daily Mayan Oracle to assist your journey to your goals.

A tool for consciousness to join the flow of Creation is and was always the true purpose of the Mayan Calendar.

   Here is your opportunity
   To get Tun-ed in,
   To the Tzolkin,
   To join the harmony,
   To heal our Mother,
   To join the Galactic community,
   As warmly loved,
   And loving, Sister / Brother.

   Welcome to the Evolution

A SIOUX STORY

The Creator gathered all of Creation and said, "I want to hide something from the humans until they are ready for it. It is the realization that they create their own reality."

The eagle said, "Give it to me, I will take it to the moon."

The Creator said, "No. One day they will go there and find it."

The salmon said, "I will bury it on the bottom of the ocean."

"No. They will go there too."

The buffalo said, "I will bury it on the Great Plains."

The Creator said, "They will cut into the skin of the Earth and find it even there."

Grandmother Mole, who lives in the breast of Mother Earth, and who has no physical eyes but sees with spiritual eyes, said, "Put it inside of them."

And the Creator said, "It is done."

Renewing the Sacred Hoop
From: Plaskow, Judith and Christ, Carol 1989 Weaving the Visions, Harper, San Francisco

DHYANI YWAHOO

Dhyani Ywahoo is a member of the Etowah Band of the Eastern Tsalagi (Cher- okee) Nation. Trained by her grandparents, she is the twenty-seventh generation to carry the ancestral wisdom of the Ywahoo Lineage. She is Spiritual Director of the Sunray Meditation Society, an international spiritual society dedicated to planetary peace.

The quality of our laughter and joy, the knowledge of our voices, thoughts, and actions are weaving beauty around the land. There is a harmony; there is a song. All things move in a circle. It is from the womb of emptiness that all is made manifest. Our thoughts make sound waves upon the planet, wind currents upon the stream. As our thoughts become clarified in the wind of our personal experience so, too, they become clarified around the planet through bioresonance. We can sense at many levels an awakening, a song arising clearly in the hearts of many people, the community of human beings sharing an environment. The song is of planetary peace; individually it means each of us recognizing the beauty of ourselves and one another. What we see around us is people calling out for peace, for remembrance, and really wishing to recall the "how." How to set aside thought forms that battle in the angry mind? How to recognize the beauty of human beings in process?

In this moment the caretaker mind of woman needs to hold forth the idea of abundance, to be joyous, to recognize the qualities of life-and to know that we can shape the world around us with our thoughts and feelings. Accepting the healing power of affirmation and action, speaking of the best, seeing ourselves in process and acknowledging the wisdom, the beauty, and the blessing of life in this time. Then to sense the interplay, the resonance of our being with all the world around us. That is the dream of this land, the dream of the child's heart; that is to renew the Sacred Hoop. In finding peace and recognizing the light in yourself, we say there's a hearth in your heart where the Creator has given you something very sacred, a special gift, a special duty, an understanding. And now is the time for us to clean out those hearths, to let that inner light glow. Listen to the breath and know it is also the mountain's breath. Mother Mountain has many meridians of energyjust as the human body does. You can feel the mountains in your cheeks, just by breathing. Your consciousness is not just in your body. lt is in everything. Everything is related. The mountain, too, is your body, so all the better to treat it with respect.

As long as you are walking upon the Earth you are like a child in the womb, being fed by this Earth. And respect for the Earth and for one another is being called for right now. We each have a duty to the Earth and to each other. Each race, each nation, has its different purpose in maintaining the whole. The wisdom of all our ancestors, wherever they came from, basically points to one truth: everything is in relation to you. Native Americans say, "all my relations," acknowledging that connection to everything that is alive. All being is an aspect of yourself. So to listen to the elements of nature is to listen to the voice of yourself: to look at the fire and see what it has to show you; to listen to the wind and understand that it, too, is your mind. These are your relatives: the fire, the water, the wind, the Earth, all of the creatures that you meet upon this planet and within it. We see some places that are not as sparkling as they can be and that is because people are being untrue to themselves, to one another, to the planet. People are not keeping tradition in their hearts; they are digging too far and using without consideration of returning. In this time it is either yes or no. You are either in harmony with the planet, with that part of truth in yourself, or you are not. The first step is to understand your own consciousness. Can we maintain spiritual dignity in an environment that denies more and more the grace of our inner beauty? We must. It is coming to that. Earth is asking. Our very inner nature is saying that to us now. Let us all speak the best of one another and perceive the best in everything.

It is a strenuous discipline in these times to practice this, courageously to speak what is correct and also to accept the softness of one's self; to realize that everything is Mother and Father. There is no form without the gift of the Mother and the Father. From Father Sky comes your consciousness and Mother Earth is your very bones. To sense the balance of the Mother/Father, Father/Mother within one's own being, one's own nature, is a way to renew the Earth, to renew our hearts, to renew the vision. To see one's purpose is a very important moment in the vision. We can choose, we can weave. We hold the form, we dance it, and the moment comes when it is recalled in each of us. We are human beings; we can live in harmony and dignity. We can make peace. We can empower ourselves to be peaceful, to know that what manifests through our hands, our hearts, and our actions is a reflection of our thinking and our relationship. In this time of illusion many people feel they're not good enough or that somebody else is in control, so they hold back. People disavow their place in the circle of life when they think in that mind. So generosity is something that we first begin to look at in our own thought. When we give we must give with consideration, so that always there is that cycle of reciprocity. To come again to realize the circle of life and the wheel of cause and effect, to plant good seeds, it is important to affirm, "I have something to give, I am receiving, even this gift of the human body and I am thankful." In this way one's highest ideals and clarity of mind can manifest. This accomplishes the goal of realizing the great truth: having good relationship with everything around one, for the benefit of all. In this industrial age, which has been described as paternalistic, we see how by moving away from the circle and working more in components, there is a loss of continuity and a forgetfulness of how what one does affects the Earth. So the big company that takes things out of the Earth and poisons the ground and the water and the atmosphere does so without even considering the effect on themselves. How do we turn the mind to realize that our actions have an effect, that things we do in this moment have an impact upon all of humanity now and unto seven generations down the road? It is in the reawakening of caretaker mind that we recognize our responsibility to right relationship and to nurture that which is good. It is the natural capacity of woman in her wombness to bring forth the good, to generate clear ideas; yet we are all caretakers and can come to see everyone we meet as a relative and ourselves as part of the great family called humanity. Seeing all in relationship, in the circle, is a part of the planetary healing. So it is very important that among ourselves we practice great generosity. This generosity carries over into respect for one another. Native people have what is called the give-away. Very often people are so happy they have a party and give away everything. Then they find themselves renewed, emptied of attachment. This concept of the give-away comes from courageously affirming one's ability to act for what is good for other people and oneself, knowing that each day will be abundant because one is not grasping. The give-away is an outward expression of an understanding that all things are related in the circle of life. How to hold the form that we are planetary beings, universal beings, and able to live in harmony? How to hold the form that we are abundant beings, capable of creating all that is needed for the people? Within our hearts and within our minds, within the imagination's light, we begin to see the way of resolution. This is known as visualization, where you see the accomplished goal of a world of enlightened action and good relationship. We must consider how our present actions will affect the world unto seven generations. This comes through stilling one's own mind and putting aside personal expectations and considering the balance of the Earth. This generates the mind of generosity.

Seeing the factions in one's own mind and community come to clarity is a first step to planetary enlightenment. It is to make peace with ourselves and all those we know; to feel confident that we are on the path of exploration, energetically seeking that full enlightenment. To know that anger, pain, shame, blame are only thought forms. We can end the formation of those thought forms by letting go of attachment to the idea of conflict. Can I make peace with my relatives? It is a great gift. How far will I go? Is there anything to lose? Nothing to lose. It is an awareness of the power of mind, an understanding of the process of unfolding and ultimately a freedom from the suffering of doubt. Doubt gives rise to fear and the idea that there is something to aggressively protect. Forgiveness is the balm, the soothing gel, so that one recognizes wisdom and the capacity to love, the compassion that turns aside fear and anger, the compassion that recognizes beauty and holds the form of planetary enlightenment. The vision is the clear intention. It is a generosity of heart, the mothering heart, the caretaker heart, that holds the vision. In terms of practical envisioning and manifesting the ideals, one considers three principles. The first principle is the clear intention that something may manifest; the understanding of its relationship to your life's purpose and to those around you and its repercussions. The second principle is generosity of heart; the compassion of the heart to affirm it to be so. The third principle is the ability, the mind to make it manifest. So we visualize the goal being accomplished in clear light, in right relationship. We affirm daily in our mind and in our spiritual practice that it will happen. And we work to manifest it. Say you want to see a piece of land in your area put in trust because it is sacred ground. How do you bring it about? The process works on many levels, and there are three basic steps: visualization, affirmation, and manifestation. First envision the land, the ideal situation and se,e your relationship to it. Is this action good for all the people? Understand its relationship to all things, to future generations, and know that it may return to you in the stream. Look and see if there are any thought forms or obscurations in your own nature or in the situation that may impede actualization of the ideal. If there are, then correct them through visualization and affirmation. Second, affirm and call forth the people through the certainty of your heart. Through visualization, affirmation, and chanting set up a magnet so that others of like energy will come and offer their resources. The third component is the manifestation, actively to manifest the goal. Carefully choose the team; attune with one another before you meet and during your meetings so you have unity of mind. Success comes from holding the ideal very clearly in your minds and making certain that the ideal is beneficial for the people unto seven generations.

The idea is in the minds of the people rather than something imposed upon the people. To sit back and think it will happen because you visualize is not enough. You consciously look for the right connections, consciously weed the garden of the mind, consciously gather the funds to acquire the place. Community building, relationship, is very active. The world of enlightened action and good relationship begins through the thoughts, words, and actions of today. People's methods, goals, or ideals may be different, but basically there is one truth in the community of human beings: we are all human beings, we are all relatives. There are many ways in which we can keep clear the stream of mind to bring forth enlightened community. First step, speak words in a building way, a constructive way; rather than pointing to the defects, point to the strengths. When recognizing defects in one's own nature or perception, make them correct through affirmation. As one is looking through the compassionate generosity of the heart, begin to notice the "empty bowl," the mind getting still. Set aside attachment to what "I said," "she said," and "they said" and understand what we are all doing together. Work by making agreement and evaluating what is possible. Set priorities. lt is most important not to let actions become "charged" and held onto. Blaming doesn't accomplish; establishing a strong pattern does.

Many people abdicate self-empowerment by withdrawing their energies, rather than by making a change either in themselves or in the situation. Also consider that people are like musical notes and need to have a harmonious complement. Knowing how to establish the team is important. Understand the basic character of those you're working with and have no expectations beyond. Clarify your own heart and know that when working together you're doing the best for all the people. Affirm that you can do it and acknowledge the positive qualities in yourself and in the work team. Do certain prayer rituals and meditations together to keep your hearts and minds clear. At Sunray when we prepare to meet we attune through the heart center, the center of compassion. There is a simple way to bring about enlightened action: knowing that whatever we're doing, we're doing it for one another, for ourselves, rather than "I do this for 'them'." Attuning to one another, working as a team, knowing that in the circle each person has a unique and necessary function, letting go of wanting one's ego stroked, this is generosity of mind. Refinement, change, is a process of life. It's how we respond to the change that is significant. See change as a process, without grasping the pain of "right or wrong," and see "it seems to be unfolding in this way." How not to grasp the feeling of pain? Look at the feeling. Where did it come from? Where did it begin? It is a matter of knowing that people do go through suffering but we can also transform the suffering into a real understanding about life. What does one do in a moment of despair? Practice, do meditation, make a ritual of clarifying the mind. "Here, I offer my attachment, my suffering, to the elements. Take them away. I inhale peace and harmony and radiate it out." The only way I know to see life as a process unfolding without becoming attached is to have clear practice, and when I say practice I mean regular meditation, reflection time. Too often people think that meditation and contemplation are separate from action.

Meditation has several phases. It has an active moment of sitting down, visualizing, chanting, whatever means the person has; then stillness of mind; then action, going out and doing something. lt may be doing what you saw in the stillness. It may be what you saw upon the screen of your mind before the stillness. The action is as much a meditation as are the sitting and the contemplation. Action is what manifests that which you perceive in the meditation. In this time there needs to be a change in action to protect the Earth. The human mind affects the very elements themselves. The thought and action of the people has become imbalanced; elements out of balance are chaotic and chaos affects planetary mind. Through good relationship and through developing generosity of heart and action individuals clarify their minds, and this resonates throughout the planet. Native peoples see that Earth is a living being, very much affected by people's thinking and actions.

The ancient Native prophecies foretell for this time much change and breaking of earth forms, the thundering of ignorance and the lightning force of inspiration moving forth. They also speak of the possible negative effects of people's attachment to thought forms of conflict and dominion. Prophecies are the possibilities that may manifest based on the actions of a given moment. And in the moment each one has a choice. So the prophecies speak of these times as trying times, of many streams meeting-and the possibility of the Hoop being rebuilt. And ultimately the Hoop will be rebuilt. I see a great turn in the spiral. The mind is very powerful and the voice is very strong. I see a world of beauty and right relationship unfolding. I see that nations will come to recognize the foolishness of nuclear armament and make changes in their actions, and that the means will come to defuse the poisonous weapons that have been made. And most important, the means will come to defuse the angry thinking that leads people to build weapons. The means are positive visualization, affirmation, and community building. Visualize yourself as a great mother feeling all the beings upon this planet, sending forth loving thoughts of peace and harmony and certainty that the crops will be good and all will be fed. Imagine yourself a great lake sending forth endless ripples of compassion and care. Let us all recall the sacred wisdom of all our relations and let that light move brightly in our hearts. Let our words be words of wisdom and creative energy, building stairways to our remembrance of the clan of humanity. In this way Mother Earth and Father Sky meet in our hearts and we know our wholeness. In this way the Sacred Hoop is renewed.

The Practical Power of Shamanism

by Sulana Stone

Shamanism is a very practical spirituality. A modern day shaman could live next door to you and the only clues you might have are that they get along well with people and animals and have a green thumb with plants. Also, shamans have a knack for putting people at ease and for saying and doing the right thing at the right time.

In his book, Urban Shaman, Serge Kahili King defines a shaman as "a healer of relationships, between mind and body, between people, between people and circumstances, between humans and Nature and between matter and spirit." If you have a taste of divine ecstasy, shamanism can teach you how to ground it, how to bring it into your everyday life through using your natural gifts and talents.

Shamanism can support you in translating that experience, that creative energy, into physical form so it can benefit you and everyone around you. The essence of shamanism is not an esoteric, mysterious, ritualistic tradition which can only be practiced by native peoples in a tribal environment. This ancient spiritual perspective on life is a down-to-earth, pragmatic, realistic way of living that anyone can use anywhere, anytime, including in our modern world. Currently across the planet, the sacred knowledge of the shaman is being translated into everyday street language in order to create more healthy, harmonious and enriching lives for people.

The spirit of shamanism is more of an open, flexible attitude and approach to living than a rigid set of rules, formulas and techniques. By applying the basic principles of shamanism, people open themselves to new possibilities and options for dealing with modern daily challenges. From Alaska to the Andes, from Tibet to Tanzania, shamanism is a worldwide phenomenon. Virtually every religion has its roots in shamanism, although shamanism is not a religion. It’s a perspective—a way of seeing all things as sacred. Shamanism does not preclude any religion. It simply says that anyone can have a direct experience of the divine without an intermediary. By honoring the sacred essence of everyone and everything, one’s whole life can truly become a spiritual adventure.

OMENS AND SIGNS

The shaman relates to every form of life as being alive, filled with energy and always communicating something to us. The key is in learning how to receive the communication. "Omens are a way Spirit communicates with us in the physical world," states shaman Ken Eagle Feather in Traveling with Power. "You can decipher omens from virtually anything, but pay special attention to unusual occurrences, whether it’s the strange behavior of birds, or conversations in which someone says something that catches your attention in a special way, or when a book falls off a shelf in front of you. You might find that messages on billboards change right in front of you, so that while others are reading an ordinary advertisement, you end up reading a message from Spirit. Be careful about being too strict in your interpretations, though. Remember, you are looking for guidance, not assurance. An omen might be the same for several people, or it might mean several different things. It’s up to you to create your personal omen dictionary. This open-ended response is called nonpatterning, and it provides the space for Spirit to communicate with you." Using personal experience as the means through which wisdom is gleaned (rather than through reading, thinking or analyzing), the shaman presents opportunities where people begin to sense a real, interactive connection with everything else that exists, even those things believed to be inanimate such as rocks, plastic, glass or metal.

EVERYTHING IS ENERGY

The basis of shamanistic creation, healing and transformation has always been the knowledge that the essential nature of everything is energy. Modern science, specifically quantum physics, has only recently concluded that every living thing is made of energy. The reason that walls and rocks appear solid is because they vibrate at a low, dense rate. We know that pictures travel invisibly through the air and arrive on our TV screens. Is it such a stretch to open to the possibility that everything has an invisible energy within it? And that communication can be transmitted through this energy? Shamans utilize the knowledge that everything is energy to create in their world by using their conscious attention to direct the flow of energy within all forms of life. Energy flows where attention goes. Indeed, scientists are now reporting that the beliefs and thoughts of the person conducting the experiments significantly affect the outcome of their experiments. Since we come to this planet to evolve our soul within the paradox of this world of polarity (light and dark, inside and outside, body and spirit), we must develop the skill to play consciously and creatively with duality. If we are truly perceptive, we can see how the energies of each opposing polarity are serving us. If we see how we are at effect of all these dualistic energies, then we can make a choice of what to keep and what to eliminate. This is an act of magic. True shamans are those who can influence energy, whether it is inside them or in the world outside them. If we have learned how energy moves and behaves, we have opened ourselves up to our true selves. This is what the paradoxes of our world teach us. Shamans know that humans are determiners of spirit, and the choices, decisions and priorities that we set fashion the reality of the world in which we live.

SEEING

When shamans use their ability to "see" the underlying energy dynamics of situations and relationships, they are able to "see" cause and effect connections and forces that are not visible when viewing the circumstances superficially, i.e., looking only at the outer form. Perceiving the energy dynamics of life events reveals new alternatives and possibilities not previously apparent. "The art of the (shaman) is to be able to guide, to be able to illuminate the path in such a way that the person hooks on to a greater experience—that of freedom," Eagle Feather shares. This allows people the freedom to move beyond limits of past perceptions into the realm of options, fresh creativity and natural magic. A shaman would "see," for example, that the anger of a supermarket clerk resulted from the clerk’s inability to express their feelings. The shaman could "see" how these emotions were adversely affecting not only the clerk, but also the people in line. Consequently, a shaman may choose to engage the angry clerk in a friendly, relaxing conversation in order to shift the situation into flow and harmony. Shamans also "see" the cause and effect between what they allow into their energy systems and make practical choices to manage their energy levels. The shaman takes in everything to gain energy and maximize personal power—from sunlight and sound to conversations and food. By consciously selecting everything she ingests, the shaman maximizes health, creativity, enjoyment and life span. The shaman’s intake strategy is to get as much energy as possible from every life encounter with the least amount of energy expended. A person should always have more, not less, energy after every life interaction. The shaman applies this approach to all forms of nourishment from the external environment—mental conversations, social relationships, emotional interactions, spiritual meditations and physical food. This simple play on the word ENERGY expresses how the shaman receives optimum energy from food.
The Practical Power of Shamanism (pt.2)

EATING FOR CREATIVE POWER

            E asily-digestible foods
            N ecessary fuel only
            E mpty before bed
            R eal hunger
            G nash
            Y ummy in your tummy

Through self-observation, a shaman determines how to manage what food they eat and how they eat in order to increase their energy, clarity and creative powers. Shamans notice cause and effect of what they ingest then adjust their actions to gain the most energy E—Easily-digestible foods—Eat those foods that most easily digest, assimilate and integrate. N—Necessary fuel only—Eat only what is absolutely needed to function optimally. No excess. E— Empty before bed—Go to sleep with an empty stomach so your body and soul have the opportunity to rest, heal, balance and recharge. R— Real hunger—Recognize when you feel real, intuitive need to eat. Look to nature, music or other energy replenishing sources of nourishment to fill that "empty" feeling. G Gnash—Chew everything well before letting it go inside your body. Y Yummy in your tummy—Eat only to those foods that are truly exciting to you!

The shamans’ way of eating food to gain power can be applied to every life exchange. Participating in those interactions that nourish you also expands your energy E—Easily-digestible exchanges—Take in those interactions, conversations, projects that most easily digest, assimilate and integrate. N—Necessary fuel only—Take in only those interactions, conversations, projects that are absolutely needed to function optimally. No excess. Touch the world lightly. E—Empty before bed—Go to sleep with an empty mind and a peaceful heart, so your body and soul have the opportunity to rest, heal, balance and recharge. R—Real hunger—Recognize when you need an energy boost. Look to nature, music or other energy replenishing sources of nourishment to fill that "empty" feeling. G—Gnash—Contemplate everything well before letting it go inside your world. Y— Yummy to your life—Be accessible, available only to those people, places and things that are truly exciting to you!

POWER

We have many powers within us that we can learn to use for our own benefit and for the benefit of others. From the shamanistic point of view, all power comes from within. Power comes from authorship (authority). Shamans become the authors of the creations in their world by freeing themselves of programmed and conditioned perceptions. In moving beyond customs, manners, rules and techniques, the shaman embraces the practicality of "What works, works." The shaman has little concern for how something works, only that it produces the results one intends. Shamans are the most flexible, utilitarian and efficient authors of their world. They take the shortest, quickest route to their goals, even if the path tramples on their own concepts or beliefs. One way people can experience this power is to look for proof in their own lives. Take love, for example. One way to increase the presence and power of love in a person’s life is to decrease the presence and power of judgment. Shamans notice that their attention cannot be in both places at the same time, and, therefore choose where they want to spend their energy. To spend energy judging that they harmed someone or that another person caused them harm would be a misdirection and waste of energy for a shaman. Eagle Feather explains more about the true nature of power, "Anyone looking for power over others or control over material processes is probably going to be disappointed by the teaching, which essentially define power as the ability to free oneself from one’s own perceptions and habitual patterns. The message seems to be that once you align with the energy, you’re no longer the master. Spirit is."

EXERCISE FOR EXPLORING
THE POWER OF LOVE

For at least one full minute, sit quietly, close your eyes, and compliment yourself unceasingly for any good quality, characteristic or behavior you can think of. It’s okay to repeat yourself if you can’t think of a lot to say. With practice it gets easier. If negative responses or self-criticisms arise spontaneously, don’t give them importance; just keep on complimenting. When you’ve finished, be aware of your feelings and sensations. Do you feel better or worse? Do you have more energy or less?

Next, for at least one full minute, sit with your eyes open and compliment any good quality, characteristic or behavior you can be aware of in your immediate environment. Again, don’t pay attention to criticisms. What have you learned about focus, choice and energy levels?

HEALING

A shaman is a bridge between this world and the invisible world of the spirit. A shaman is very anchored, very present in this world. Being so centered and grounded, a shaman can assist a person to travel into dimensions and see things from a much bigger perspective. Then people can heal because there is more room for them to expand and open to fresh new realities. This expanded awareness from the shaman creates a strong foundation for people to awaken to their own healing power within. The goal of the shaman is always to support the awakening of the soul. The shaman acts as an anchor so the person can reach their own depth and move through their own cellular transformation. Shaman Frederick Wolf concurs. "People really know how to heal themselves. It’s an illusion to think that someone is going to come and heal them. But what will happen is, when they feel the support and safety that the shaman can hold for them, they will have faith enough to go into that place inside of them that knows how to heal. It’s not some magical thing that happens. It’s very natural."

WAY OF LIVING

Shamanism is a way of living on the altar of Mother Earth. It’s a way to live in balance on the earth, a way of finding not only peace with yourself personally, but peace with nature and your environment. Shamanism is bringing the two worlds together your inner world—your heart—with your outer world. It’s important to be balanced, to be grounded in both worlds. We should be able to go anywhere and be at home, whether it’s in a cave or a big city. Shamanism is a pathway that can help us to realize the sacredness and magic within and all around us. Birds that soar into the heavens, trees whose roots reach deep into the earth, everything in nature reflects an aspect of our souls. As the poet Rumi said, "You will see stars and moons mirrored in your being." Shamanism is letting go of our limited ideas and concepts of who we are. As we abandon our illusions of separateness, we open to the beauty and simplicity of our true nature—our connectedness with all of life.

THE POWER AND FREEDOM
OF COMPLETION

Would you enjoy having an easy way to increase your energy and ability to focus and giving yourself a way to glide through daily activities without getting overloaded with "what you haven’t done yet?" By simply being aware of when we have come to completion of each activity, we gain a significant source of energy and give ourselves the freedom to move on.

With our attention fully available for our next action, we can make better decisions and begin the next action more easily and intuitively. And, how do we have completion with activities that "aren’t finished yet?" It’s simple. You ask yourself one question, "What am I capable of completing right now?" You do everything you can do up to that point, with what resources, ideas and information you have. Then you make a determination that you’re complete at that point. Declare yourself complete for the moment. That declaration of completion liberates the attention you have on that project or issue. Then you have more free energy to apply to the next moment or project.

A practical example would be discovering that you’ve run out of steam in the middle of cleaning a closet. You can’t decide if you should throw away an old shirt or what to do with a box of books you find in the closet. You’re tired. Grumpy. At this point, a shaman recognizes that he needs to regenerate his energy in order to make good decisions and asks, "What am I capable of completing right now?" The best course of action might be to label articles "decide later about these items" then declare yourself complete for the moment. Then take action to replenish your energy. Go for a walk. Play some music. When you have regained your clarity, you are in a position to decide if this is the time for you to continue your closet Feng Shui or do something else.

As a holistic way of living life, shamanism takes the most practical, compassionate path to reach any goal.

Magic power of American Indians
06/30/2004 14:57

There are many mysterious things in the history of wars between white people and Indians in America.
Many times Indian heroes marvelously stayed alive in dangerous situations, although there was no chance for them to survive.

1865. The battle on the Powder river. According to Indian chronicles, the chief of Cheienn tribe Roman Nose behave very strange, "During the battle he was slowly riding a horse in front of the line of the white people. The soldiers fired at him, but all the bullets missed. He was wearing a sacred headgear having magic power".

June 25, 1876. Indian of the Siu tribe Iron Hawk described the crushing defeat of 7th cavalry regiment, "We had very brave Cheienn. He was wearing a headgear from the feathers of the spotty eagle, spotty cloak from some animals skin and parti-colored belt. He rode his horse to the hill, we followed him at some distance. The soldiers were standing along the hill. They were holding their horses by the bridles. The Cheienn approached the soldiers very closely, and they were constantly firing at him. When the Cheienn came back to us, he untied his belt, and the bullets fell down from it. The sacred force protected this well-built warrior, and for this reason the soldier were unable to do harm to him".

Five months later, on November 25, 1876, the warriors of the Cheienn tribe led by chief Blunt Knife were attacked by 4th cavalry regiment of colonel Ronald McKensey and had to leave their camp. The Indians took cover in the canyon near the Powder river. For the whole day the soldiers fired at Indians, but with no success as the Indians were hiding behind the stones. Suddenly an old Indian came out on the open hill and started smoking a pipe. The American soldiers who had already lost hope to win, cheered up and started firing at the old Indian. No result. Soon another Indian joined the old man. The two men smoked their pipes to the end and then left. They were not even injured.

1890. The last battle of the steppe Indians near the Wounded Knee river. The saint prophet of  the Siu tribe Black Elk demonstrated his magic power during that battle. Black Elk was leading a group of Indians. He had no gun, but was holding the sacred bow in front of them. The soldiers were shooting at Black Elk and his companions without stop, but no Indian was wounded. There are chronicles that the tribe had special warriors. "The Siu called those having magic power "Vacan" - mysterious. Occasionally they demonstrated their tribesmen their power. After paining themselves in a special way and having only loin-cloth on and sacred whistles on their chests, Vacans formed a line and moved to the people shooting at them. Arrows bent and broke, bullets became flat and fell on the ground, and Vacans were not injured at all. Nevertheless, even such invulnerable Siu had to bow down after that battle.

Finally, blind force and white people" weapons won, but the invulnerability of Indian warriors still seems remarkable to many historians. There are so many chronicles on wonders Indian warriors and shamans were producing that they can hardly be considered as lies.

The Seven Shaman Principles
by Serge Kahill King

  1.
The World is What You Think It Is

Positive thoughts attract positive people and events, and negative thoughts attract negative people and events.

     Corollary: Everything is a dream

Dreams are real and reality is a dream. The only test we use for a reality check is whether or not someone else experiences it. Hallucination means "your dream doesn’t match my dream." "Reality" to a shaman is a mass hallucination, or a shared dream. If this life is a dream and if we can wake up fully within it, then we can change the dream by changing our dreaming.

     Corollary: All systems are arbitrary

All meanings are made up and the Absolute Truth is whatever you decide it is. What matters is how well the system works for you, not how true it is (which is an arbitrary concept).
  2.
     There are No Limits

We experience two kinds of limitations: creative and filtered. Creative limitation assumes the purposeful establishment of limits within an infinite universe in order to create particular experiences, made by God or our own Higher Selves. These enable us to experience life as humans on Earth (to play by that particular set of rules - breaking the rules changes to another game).

Filtered limitations are imposed by ideas and beliefs that inhibit creativity rather than enhance it, like beliefs that engender hopelessness, helplessness, revenge and cruelty. They generate focus without the potential for positive action.

     Corollary: Everything is connected

The usual metaphor is a web of interdependence.

     Corollary: Anything is possible

All you have to do is believe. However, because you are not alone in the Universe, the degree to which something can be shared depends on the beliefs of others around you.

Corollary: Separation is a useful illusion

Pure empathy makes you as helpless as the one suffering. Fear make you lose sight of your role as dreamweaver.
  3.
     Energy Flows Where Attention Goes

Meditation and hypnosis are simply different techniques for doing the same thing - refocusing your attention toward more positive beliefs and expectations. As states, both are identical conditions of sustained focused attention.

Those aspects of your present experience which seem enduring are the effect of habitual sustained focused attention carried on by your subconscious.

Corollary: Attention goes where energy flows

Attention is attracted to all kinds of high energy intensity.

     Corollary: Everything is energy

Thought is energy and one kind of energy can be converted into another kind of energy.

  4.
Now is the Moment of Power

Karma exists and operates only in the present moment. It is your beliefs, decisions, and actions today about yourself and the world around you that give you what you have and make you what you are.

Thanks to memory we may carry over habits of body and mind from day to day, but each day is a new creation and any habit can be changed at any present moment - even if it isn’t easy.

You select out of the immense resources of your gene pool those characteristics that best reflect your present beliefs and intentions. Your parents/social background have nothing to do with your present, but what you believe about them now and how you react to those beliefs does.

     Corollary: Everything is relative

You define "now" based on your focus (second, hour, year, lifetime).

Corollary: Power increases with sensory attention

Many people living today aren’t even here - most of their attention is focused on the past or the future. To the degree they diminish their awareness of the present moment, their power and effectiveness in the present also decreases.
  5.
To Love is to Be Happy With

Love exists to the degree that you are happy with the object of your love. The unhappy part comes from fear, anger and doubt. To be deeply in love means to be deeply connected, and the depth and clarity of the connection increases as fear, anger and doubt are removed.

Corollary: Love increases as judgment decreases

Criticism kills relationships; praise builds and rebuilds them. When you give praise you reinforce the good and it grows. When you criticize you reinforce the bad and it grows.

Corollary: Everything is alive, aware and responsive

You subconscious takes any praise or criticisms it hears to heart, even if it’s directed elsewhere, even if you’re saying it. Each criticism separates you from and decreases your awareness of what you criticize, until you end up responding to a secondary creation of your own that may no longer resemble the original. When someone criticizes you, praise yourself to counteract it.
  6.
     All Power Comes From Within

For every event that you experience you creatively attract it through your beliefs, desires, fears and expectations, and then react to it habitually or respond to it consciously. This does not mean that you are to blame for your abuse or injury, because you were probably not conscious of your negative beliefs, attitudes and expectations. It also does not mean the other person is innocent.

     Corollary: Everything has power

You do not have ALL the power in the world - everyone has the same power. The good news - you can work with these powers.

     Corollary: Power comes from authority

Confident authority is the key to conscious creation.
  7.
Effectiveness is the Measure of Truth

The means determine the end, not the ends justify the means. What is really important is what works.

Corollary: There is always another way to do anything

Every problem has more than one solution. If the goal is important, you should never give up, just change your approach.

Basic Format for a Ritual

  1. Preparation
Get all your props and clothing together, arrange furnishings, set up music, plan the steps, and designate the special area.
  2. Opening
A dramatic gesture, words of prayer or greeting, a musical attention getter, or a get-acquainted process.
  3. Content
Doing whatever is involved with the purpose of the ritual. Generally, the shorter the content, the more formal it is (wedding vs. Olympic Games).
  4. Closing
This is where you get everyone’s attention back and make a definite end to the ritual. Often overlooked.

What Determines Effective Ritual

  1. It must have a strong beginning and ending. Start by doing something to get everyone’s attention. At the end, get everyone’s attention again and clearly end the ritual.
  2. It must have strong sensory input. The more senses the better -- vision, hearing, scent are common - try adding taste and touch.
  3. It must have a familiar or predictable form. Include familiar sensory elements and patterns in every ritual, even though every ritual on every occasion might be different.
  4. The meaning of every part of the ritual must be understood. To whatever degree a part of the ritual is not understood, its effectiveness is lost. Explain before or during the ritual.
  5. It must be special. Make ritual times into occasions of positive reinforcement of your groups shared values.

What Makes a Ritual Special

  1. A special area
An area can be made special in several ways. One is consecration - doing a ritual blessing. The easiest way to make a place special for ritual is by encircling it with people, especially by having them hold hands.
  2. Special objects
     Clothing, jewelry, decor, tools, food.
  3. Special movements
     Gestures, postures, dances.
  4. Special sounds
Intonation, chanting, singing, music, percussion, prayers and blessings, special words.

O Great Spirit of the North,
Invisible Spirit of the Air,
And of the fresh, cool winds,
O vast and boundless Grandfather Sky,
Your living breath animates all life.
Yours is the power of clarity and strength,
Power to hear the inner sounds,
To sweep out the old patterns,
And to bring change and challenge,
The ecstasy of movement and the dance.
We pray that we may be aligned with you,
So that your power may flow through us,
And be expressed by us,
For the good of this planet,
And all living beings upon it.

O Great Spirit of the West,
Spirit of the Great Waters,
Of rain, rivers, lakes and springs.
O Grandmother Ocean
Deep matrix, womb of all life.
Power to dissolve boundaries,
To release holdings,
Power to taste and to feel,
To cleanse and to heal,
Great blissful darkness of peace.
We pray that we may be aligned with you,
So that your powers may tlow through us,
And be expressed by us,
For the good of this planet,
And all living beings upon it.

O Great Spirit of the East,
Radiance of the rising Sun,
Spirit of new beginnings,
O Grandfather Fire, Great nuclear fire -- of the Sun.
Power of life-energy, vital spark,
Power to see far, and to
Imagine with boldness.
Power to purify our senses,
Our hearts and our minds.
We pray that we may be aligned with you,
So that your powers may flow through us,
And be expressed by us,
For the good of this planet Earth,
And all living beings upon it.

O Great Spirit of the South,
Protector of the fruitful land,
And of all green and growing things,
The noble trees and grasses,
Grandmother Earth, Soul of Nature.
Great power of the receptive,
Of nurturance and endurance,
Power to grow and bring forth Flowers of the field,
Fruits of the garden.
We pray that we may be aligned with you,
So that your powers may flow through us,
And be expressed by us,
For the good of this planet Earth,
And all living beings upon it.

“Serpent represents the binding principle;
jaguar is the renewing force; hummingbird represents the epic journey of evolution and growth; and eagle or condor stands for the self-transcending principle. Heaven is the creative force; Earth is the receptive force. When you summon them, you align yourself with the forces that animate all life.” —

Alberto Villoldo, Shaman, Healer, Sage

-----------

To the winds of the South:
Great Serpent,
Wrap your coils of light around us.
Teach us to shed the past the way you
shed your skin,
To walk softly on the Earth.
Teach us the Beauty Way.

To the winds of the West:
Mother Jaguar,
Protect our Medicine Spaces,
Teach us the way of Peace,
to live impeccably,
show us the way beyond death.

To the winds of the North:
Hummingbird, Grandmother and Grandfather,
Ancient Ones,
Come and warm your hands by our fires,
whisper to us in the wind.
We honor you who have come before us,
And you who will come after us,
our children's children.

To the winds of the East:
Great Eagle, Condor,
Come to us from the place of the rising Sun,
Keep us under your wing,
Show us the mountains we only dare to dream of,
Teach us to fly wing to wing with the Great Spirit.

Mother Earth,
We've gathered for the healing of all of your children:
The Stone People, the Plant People,
The four-legged, the two-legged,
the creepy crawlers,
The finned, the furred, and the winged ones
– all our relations.

Father Sun, and Grandmother Moon of the Star Nations,
Great Spirit, you who are known by a thousand names,
you who are the Unnamable One,
Thank you for bringing us together
And allowing us to sing the Song of Life.

Have You Taken the Time to Really Listen

A friend came to me today and needed to talk.
As I sat listening, I wondered just how many times
I had said, "If you need me, I'm here for you". As
this friend began telling me what the problem was,
I realized, I was tuning out and turning off. As I
watched what was being written, my mind wandered.
I thought to myself, this is such a small problem
compared to what I am facing right now, why do I
waste my time? But then something was said that
grabbed me and moved me. This friend described how
much turmoil had come into her life and how she
just felt so alone. How she didn't think she
wanted to continue living. At this point, I
struggled for words to tell her,"NO! That was not
the solution". I even said, "You have many who
care for you and are here for you"....see, there
it was again, that old phrase, but is it really
true? Do we just express empty words that have no
real meaning? Do we just say them because, at the
time ,they seem appropriate? Do we REALLY mean
these words? So many come to trust one another,
why we even share our deepest, darkest secrets and
at times these secrets become known to all. Is
this the way it should be?
After much time and effort, I really began to
listen and pay attention. My inner voice said,
"Hey, this time, this one is for real. She is
really serious and she has come to me because I
said I will be here for you." We talked a long
while and after much discussion, she understood,
there was someone to reach out to and someone who
would make a difference and just listen. And I
realized, it doesn't take much time or effort to
be there when a friend needs me. My troubles may
seem larger than life, but maybe, just maybe, that
one time I ignore a plea for help, is the one time
it is REALLY needed.
So, next time you say those few simple
words,"If you need me, I am here for you", think
about it....Do you really have the time and are
you really there? It may make the difference in
someone else's life.

Arthor Unknown...

The Shadow of the Shaman
by ShadoWoman

In order to be an effective shamanic healer, one must first heal him/herself.  It is imperative that the shamanic healer begin by confronting his/her own Shadow-side.

Everything has a dark side and the sooner we accept this, the sooner we can love all of existence for what it is.

The character of the Shadow is negative and is all the traits we keep hidden from the world and, most often, from ourselves.

We hide these traits to avoid being criticized and ostracized by family, friends, and society at large.

The Shadow (which I affectionately call my "demon") has been with us from birth and will remain with us until death.  It feeds on our negative feelings--self-doubt, discouragement, rejection, and depression...just to name a few.

The Shadow gains power when we dwell on these negative feelings and/or when we deny its existence altogether. It becomes our antithesis; our personal opposition and if left unchecked, the Shadow can and will take over our lives.

Nobody, and especially not a Shaman, can afford the risk of living in denial of the Shadow's existence.  Simply put--it is folly and irresponsible to even try to do so!  We must take control of and be responsible for our own existence before we can be entrusted with the healing of others.

We must have the courage to go deep within and confront our shadow-self; to sit with it in pain.  We must bring every negative quality out from the dark and into the light that the gifts of the Shadow may be used for good.

This is a minor example:  If you've been the kind of person who is always "walked on" because of an inability to say "No," then the Shadow can give you the courage to just say "No."

By acknowledging and incoorporating the Shadow into our being, we begin to accept our strengths, as well as, our limitations.  We begin to understand that bad things happen to good people and that without the darkness of the Shadow, we can never fully appreciate the greatest of all of Creator's gifts--the gift of Life!

A Journey to the Shadow

Materials needed:  Blanket & Rattle or Drum

For this journey you should first make 2 lists...one listing your positive qualities, the other your negative qualities.  Be honest!

Place a blanket on the floor of a dark room.  Smudge your area and self.  Lie on your back, breathe deeply and relax.   When you are relaxed and comfortable begin to focus on your negative traits.  Notice how they've weakened you or strengthened you.

Next, state your intentions, "I seek my Shadow-Self" and begin to rattle or drum in a steady rythm until you begin to feel a shift in your consciousness.  Go to your entrance into the lowerworld.  Your guides will be waiting for you already.  Mentally state your intention to your guides.  They will know the places to look for your Shadow.

Most likely your Shadow will not be easily found.  It will run and it will hide because it doesn't want to be found.  It may flee into the upperworld, so you will have to climb the World Tree to get there.  Your guides will continue to help you on your search.

Wherever it may be, when you do find it, approach it with the utmost respect and confidence.  Some shadows can be aggressive, but you are in a place where you can manifest the things you may need...so manifest a weapon, such as a staff or sword for your defense.  Do NOT wield your weapon with the intent to destroy or you will kill a vital part of yourself.  Some shadows will simply flee again.

When you are able, coax your shadow to sit and talk with you.  It will probably whine and place blame on everyone else for making it the way it is.  Be firm, but gentle in letting it know that you created it and that you will not let it control you.  Let it know that you are responsible for your own life.

Ask your shadow to help you on future journeys and thank it for talking with you.  Say your farewell and return from your journey.

You may not find your shadow on the first journey, but don't give up, try again another time.  It is afraid of being discovered.

Never take your Shadow's existence for granted and remember that it will take time to forge a trusting relationship.  Work with your shadow and talk with it regularly.  Your shadow's qualities will strengthen you and be a tool of usefulness on future journeys and in your life in general.

Free yourself from the way you normally view the world. You are the dreamer and the dreamed. In the collective dreamfield, all things are possible and are constantly being created. By choosing to become a conscious dreamer, you are helping to create the new reality of the larger dream, the greater reality unfolding.

Your personal dream is unfolding. You are the dreamer revealing the dream. Be present. Be aware. Remember that you are the ancient sage who carries the wisdom of lifetimes into this moment, and that this dream offers you the opportunity to merge all that you have been and may become. Time and space are folding. Stop and feel the interweaing of threads in the new dream. Be aware of potent dreams, chance meetings, catalytic books, and unusual encounters. As you recognize these threads from the larger dream, an exciting tapestry of meaning and purpose emerges.

The dreamer is awakening, destiny is dawning. See how your past has brought you into the present and how the present catapults you into the future. Watch for strong feelings and intuitive knowings: patterns, images, colors, sounds, and sensations. Bring the mythic expression of yourself into the dream of your daily life!

Free yourself from the way you normally view the world. You are the dreamer and the dreamed. In the collective dreamfield, all things are possible and are constantly being created. By choosing to become a conscious dreamer, you are helping to create the new reality of the larger dream, the greater reality unfolding.
